Biography
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PUT OUT A BIO-BROCHURE THAT SAYS "PLEASE REFER TO ALL THE OTHER ARTIST BROCHURES IN YOUR COLLECTION", BUT SINCE SOME FOLKS MIGHT NOT SEE THE HUMOR, HERE'S MY OFFERING
Victor Armstrong was born in Austin, Texas, where he still resides and maintains studios in the hill country west of the city. He majored in art at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, later Southwest Texas State University and now Texas State University. Following a tour in the United States Navy, he worked as a commercial artist and as a silkscreen processor. Victor owned and operated a commercial and electric sign company before becoming a full time studio artist in 1970.
Victor handles several mediums with distinctive freshness and strong rymthical brushstrokes. Over the years more than 2000 art students have attended his workshops and seminars including his "Painting in the Park" workdays sponsored by the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Victor has had numerous one man shows and museum exibitions and was among five living artists selected to show at an Art of the West exhibition in cooperation with the University of Texas. He was selected as Guest Artist to the National Western Invitational Art Show in Denver Co. In 1972 Victor was invited to the State Fair of Texas as the Featured Guest Artist and continued to exhibit and demonstrate painting at the Fair for 31 years. After the 2002 fair, remodeling and renovations in the Embarcadero and Creative Arts building eliminated the booth Victor had enjoyed for 20 years.
He was elected to Life membership in a group of professional artists known as the Texas Wild Bunch, he enjoys exhibiting and participating in QuickDraws throughout Texas and the Western United States. Victor is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and the Austin River Rats Art Group.
Studios located in Coldwater Canyon off City Park Road west of Austin.
